Have you gone on to use your rating?“Yes! I have used it at Skydive Spaceland San Marcos, and more recently at Skydive City/Z-Hills. I have done a little over 500 tandem jumps since I obtained the rating a little over a year ago, yet I have been continuing to do AFF and Videographer jumps as well as a full-time skydiver. I did about 900-1000 jumps in that time. So, with about half of them being tandem, being a TI definitely makes life and income as a full-time skydiver more stable. Tandems are the bread and butter of the sport that subsidize the rest of jumping operations, and it is wonderful to be a more marketable skydiving professional now.

Did you feel ready post course? “The transition from course to real world is always a tough one. For most of us we still won’t “feel ready” until we bite the bullet and just do it. Let’s be honest, no one is ever “ready” for this great responsibility of someone else’s life and experience bestowed upon us, but put in that situation we have to make the choice to step up. The intensity of the practice and testing during the course definitely pushed me to step up and helped me see what I was made of (in addition to drilling in all of the essentials), far before adding real students into the process. In addition, the positive encouragement from the Examiner (Angie) telling and showing me that I was ready helped me to take that leap to jump in with both feet.”

What has been your biggest accomplishment since getting your rating?“Oddly, it has nothing to do with Tandems, yet doing tandems and accomplishing that goal, showed me that I am capable of far more than I think at times, and this is what encouraged me to get back to swooping and even to venture into my first swoop competition.”
