I’d like to share a summary of my activity for 2023:

I was elected USPA National Director and visited 17 amazing dropzones!!! Please follow our IG, FB & TikTok to stay up to date on our posts/tags, etc. (if there is a preference by Cookie Helmet on tags, #, or stickers you prefer we use please let us know).

Attended the following USPA related events:
  • PIA Symposium – Presented on Tandem Instructor Retention
  • USPA Standardization Meetings
  • The Becca Boogie
  • Board of Director Meetings
  • International Skydiving Museum & Hall of Fame

I ran 22 USPA Rating Courses with a total of 75 candidates:
  • Tandem – 26 candidates
  • Coach – 23 candidates
  • AFFI – 26 candidates

USPA Projects that I worked on this year:

-Canopy Task Force: The goal of the task force is to revisit the canopy education portions of the SIM, IRM and within our licensing programs to see where there is room for improvements, changes and updates. Another big goal is to identify canopy exercises that can be performed to better prepare jumpers for Canopy Emergency Procedures (CEP’s)

-Tandem Canopy Education Project: Developed the Tandem Examiner Working group which consists of approximately 50% of our USPA Tandem Examiner Core. This group has been involved in a project to develop canopy focused training. The goal is to better equip our tandem instructors in canopy related knowledge and understanding in two major areas: Learning to fly the tandem canopy and Learning to deal with Canopy Emergency Procedures (CEP’s)

-Canopy Emergency Procedures (CEP’s) is a phrase we are trying to give meaning to and includes exercises which we need to stay proficient at in order to avoid or recover from a canopy related emergency.

STAY ALIVE, PRACTICE FIVE:
1. Rear riser turns – for avoidance & maintaining a level wing during turns
2. Braked turns – for avoidance and to slow the rate of descent
3. ½ brake flares – for recovery from an high flare, turbulence or a low turn
4. Reverse Turns – for avoidance & turbulence recovery
5. Low turn Recovery – to neutralize the turn and follow through with a symmetric flare

-Mental Wellness in Skydiving: I have started my research to better understand how we can give more attention to our mental wellbeing when it comes to coping with trauma such as grief, loss, injury or tragedy.
I love flying my Vector3, Cookie Helmet and my L&B Altimeters!!!  These reputable products have kept me safe for thousands of skydives.
